At CISA, we have the perfect Spanish class for you. Every student takes a placement test upon arrival to ensure they are placed at the right level for effective learning. Our programs are fully customized to match your goals, pace, and experience. For those with limited time, we also offer intensive courses and one-on-one lessons, providing a personalized approach that helps you make the most of your stay and achieve rapid progress in your Spanish skills.
A Typical Week in Tuis
– Morning Classes: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
– Afternoon Options: Enrich your learning with specialized classes and cultural experiences. Afternoons are filled with classes and activities designed to deepen your Spanish and cultural understanding:
– Intensive Spanish Lessons (4 hrs/week): Formal lessons for structured grammar and fluency.
– Cooking Class (1 hr/week): Hands-on preparation of traditional Costa Rican dishes.
– Cross-Cultural Missions (1 hr/week): Explore Latin American culture through ministry-focused topics.
– Natural Adventure Fitness (1–3 times/week): Sports, training, and fitness at Finca Canaanda. Personal training available.
– Medical Terminology Class (4 hrs/week): Spanish for healthcare professionals and medical students.
– Spanish for Teachers (4+ hrs/week): Refresher with both linguistic and pedagogical training.
This rhythm of study, cultural connection, and community life allows individuals to grow in confidence while enjoying authentic Costa Rican life. This balance of study, culture, and adventure makes each week unique.
Tuis is a peaceful rural town surrounded by mountains, rivers, and coffee farms—an ideal place for individual students to experience authentic Costa Rican life. Known as one of the safest districts in Costa Rica, Tuis offers a warm and welcoming community where learners can feel at home while studying Spanish, connecting with locals, and enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds them.

Individual students usually stay with local host families from the Tuis community. This daily interaction not only accelerates Spanish learning and provides a sense of safety and companionship, but also supports the local economy by blessing families in an area with limited employment opportunities. It’s a meaningful exchange that benefits both the students and the community they become part of.
Your Home Away From Home
At CISA, living with a Costa Rican host family means becoming part of something special. Students are welcomed into warm homes where they share daily meals, conversations, family activities, and local celebrations. This genuine hospitality turns a stay in Costa Rica into much more than a study experience—it becomes life shared. Many students leave with not only improved Spanish skills but also with a Costa Rican family they will cherish forever.

The Homestay Experience
Living with a Costa Rican host family is one of the most enriching parts of the CISA experience. Individual students enjoy three home-cooked meals each day (with lunches at CISA on school days), laundry service, internet access, and a private bedroom with either a shared or private bathroom. More than just accommodation, the homestay provides a true sense of belonging—students share daily life, practice Spanish naturally, and build meaningful relationships within a warm, supportive environment. Most host homes are within walking distance or a short bus ride from the school. Before arrival, each student receives a Homestay Profile with photos and a description of their host family to ensure a smooth and welcoming start.
